plentyMarketplace is getting bigger every day. We're constantly adding new features and plugins for plentymarkets 7. But what if you're looking for a specific plugin or feature that we haven't covered (yet)? One possible solution: crowdfunding! We'd like to introduce you to the very first plugin that was created as a joint project.

plentymarkets Crowdfunding

Every solution starts with an idea

Christian Kist, owner of kiom24.de, was happy with the interface between plentymarkets and Channelpilot. It was easy for him to manage data on multiple price search engines and swap data back and forth between both systems. There was just one thing that bothered him. He wasn't able to track his Channelpilot sales in plentymarkets. He asked the web design agency, Frontend Studios, for advice and learned that it would be possible to add such a feature. He would simply need a plugin to do it. But the bad news: no such plugin existed at the time. Christian Kist thought about it, but decided that it was just too expensive to commission a plugin. But as it turned out, there was a way to solve that problem too.

Help wanted!

Christian Kist began reaching out to other sellers in the plentymarkets customer forum and asking them if they could also use a tracking function for Channelpilot. He only needed to find 8 people who would be willing to help him finance the project. And thus started the first crowdfunding project for a plentymarkets plugin.

It wasn't long until he found other sellers – some of them even offered to pay twice as much in exchange for multiple licenses. The developers at Frontend Studios were able to get started on the project and begin writing code for the plugin.

Frontend Studios was able to add the plugin Channelpilot Salestracking to plentyMarketplace just 3 business days after finding the last investor. Everyone who participated in the project received a free license. Anyone who wants to use the plugin in the future can buy it in plentyMarketplace for €49.99 plus VAT.

Jan Mense, CEO of Frontend Studios, was happy with the project and all the new possibilities it opens up for the future: "This crowdfunding project happened by chance - and I'm so glad it did. On the one hand, it shows us how much potential the plentymarkets plugin market has. And on the other hand, it proves there's an affordable way for any seller to add store functions and get their individual needs met. And really, that's the basic idea behind the plentyMarketplace. Our agency was able to recover the cost of developing the plugin, add a new plugin to the marketplace and come away with several satisfied customers. We'd love to do it again any time!"

Crowdfunding – be a trend setter

Collectively hiring an agency to create a plentymarkets plugin is a great way for sellers to simultaneously save money and help others. The possibilities are limitless: you only need an idea and someone who can put the plan into action.

Here at plentymarkets, we enjoyed watching the project unfold and we were all very happy with the end result. David Orlowski, the Product Owner who is responsible for plentyMarketplace, commented: "News of this first collaborative project spread like wildfire here at plentymarkets. We're incredibly happy that the group effort was a success and that the result really was a crowdfunded plugin in plentyMarketplace. And it all happened completely independent of plentymarkets. We love such projects and are already thinking about how we can encourage similar projects in the future."
