Expiration dates and batch numbers are absolutely essential for many online businesses. These specifications provide customers with crucial information about the products of their choice. We're proud to announce that we've nearly finished adding these features to our arsenal of tools in plentymarkets. Read on to get a sneak peak of these highly anticipated functions.

Best before date in plentymarkets

We're currently planning the initial release of a function, which will allow sellers to record "best before" dates and batch numbers for their items. These new features will expand upon already existing structures. In other words, existing entry fields and functions will not be removed. We have simply added new entry fields to the item data menus.

What can sellers expect from the initial release?

The initial release will allow sellers to save expiration dates and batch numbers in their plentymarkets back end. This first release lays the groundwork for expanding the function even further in the future. Splitting the release into several steps also helps us minimise risk, as these functions affect several different teams. Our next goal will be to add "best before" dates and batch numbers to our processes and stock management tools within the app. In doing so, we'll make changes to the "single incoming item" procedure. All sellers who work with processes and the app will benefit from having a bit of patience. We advise sellers to wait and begin saving expiration dates and batch numbers for their items once we have finished adding the corresponding functions for processes and the app. Otherwise errors could occur when sellers use processes and the app to book new items into stock.

What's the plan for the future?

Further releases will focus on modifying the item registration procedure, the mobile pick list and the delivery note and invoice documents. Afterwards, we'll start working on other procedure (for re-orders and returns), app functions (booking, re-booking and inventory), new UIs to give users an overview of batch numbers and expiration dates as well as order reservation functions (FIFO, LIFO etc.). At this point in time, we are unable to give an estimate of when these additional features will be finished, but we will provide further information as soon as the planning phase has ended. We're also planning to make expiration dates and batch numbers available for POS. However, they will be implemented at a later point in time.

Our developer teams are preparing these releases as quickly as they can so that sellers can begin using the entire range of functions in the near future.
